A quick, clear reply on LinkedIn can turn a message into a client, a job interview or a useful friendship. A slow or confusing reply can lose it. Here are simple templates for the messages you get most often.

The structure of every good reply

  1. Thank or greet in one short line.
  2. Answer the main question directly.
  3. Give the next step: a time, a link, or a question.

A potential client asks about your service

TemplateHi [name], thanks for reaching out. Yes, I can help with [need]. Usually I [short how]. To give you an exact quote, could you tell me [key question]?

A client asks for a sample or a call

SampleSure! I will send a sample of [what] by [time]. Let me know if you would like it in a specific format.
Call, but you prefer writingHappy to help. Could we start here in chat? I can answer quickly and share examples. If needed, we can do a short call after.

A recruiter messages you

InterestedHi [name], thank you for thinking of me. The role sounds interesting. Could you share the job description and the salary range?
Not interested nowHi [name], thank you for reaching out. I am happy in my current role for now, but I would be glad to stay in touch.

A cold sales pitch you do not want

Polite noHi [name], thanks for the message. This is not a priority for us right now, but I appreciate you thinking of us.

A new connection says hello

TemplateHi [name], thanks for connecting! I saw you work on [their area]. What are you focused on these days?

When you need more time
